Tess Recordon works from her studio in Grantchester. She divides her time between Cambridge and Cornwall. Tess studied Fine Art at the Byam Shaw School of Art in London. There she won the Principle's drawing prize and was awarded the Mercers Scholarship.

Tess grew up in an artistic environment. Her mother Gillian Recordon is a textile designer. Tess lives with her husband, and a small dog called Mango.

Extensive travels to USA, Far East, Asia, Australia, NewZealand, Africa and the Tropics have provided the inspiration for much of her work. The world she sees is abstracted through the use of evocative colours and ethereal shapes to recapture places she has visited. She aims to regain the overpowering sense of a place for colour, mood and light.

She has developed unusual and sophisticated techniques, using oil paint and pigment to recreate diverse effects such as water, silk and earth. The resulting paintings are strong, intense and often alive with luminous qualities.
